David L. Leatherby, Jr. began his business career in Sacramento, CA after attending Jesuit High School and subsequently Santa Clara University where he majored in Business and played football. Prior to entering into commercial real estate over 22 years ago, Dave was an entrepreneur, founding a number of business ventures such as Leatherby Painting Co., Friedman’s Microwave Ovens and the well known Leatherby’s Family Creamery chain of ice cream parlors, which his family still operates today.

In 1986, Dave joined Coldwell Banker’s Sacramento office, now CB Richard Ellis, where he worked as an industrial property and land specialist for 15 years. During his time at CB, Dave received awards each year as one of the top brokers in the region, and was a founding member of the Central Valley Industrial Group (CVIG), one of the premier commercial real estate teams in the nation. Moving his team to Colliers International in 2001, Dave focused his efforts primarily representing large development projects, national tenants in build-to-suit transactions, joint venture projects, entitlement land and investment sales. He has been involved in the sale and leasing of over 10 Million SF of buildings and the sale and development of over 10,000 acres of industrial and agricultural zoned land.

Dave fulfilled a life-long dream to develop commercial real estate by becoming a partner with Jeff Phelan of Phelan Development Company in 2007. He will be developing properties throughout Central and northern California, including the greater Reno, Nevada area.

Dave currently resides in Sacramento with his wife, Jennifer, and four children and is very active in the community, supporting many charities and organizations, both financially and with his time. Dave serves as a board member for Mercy Hospital’s assisted living center, Mercy McMahon, and is a member of “Legatus,” a national organization of CEO’s, as well as a number of real estate related organizations.
